I work as a concierge in a hotel and it baffles me that for the most part, there are no guidelines for tipping concierges. We perform a service just like any wait person, stylist or bartender, sometimes spending hours or days working out amenities or handling details for guests. It’s my opinion that we deserve to be tipped when we can arrange for sold out performance tickets, seating in a hard to reserve restaraunt or spend much time looking for hotel accomodations or flights for people. I can’t stress enough how much it irritates me when I spend a good half hour booking a flight and getting a room for someone and then they walk away as if I’ve just given them the time of day and NOT just made their trip much, much easier for them.
